Zion's congregation & school family come together for the 2nd of 6 special midweek Lenten services. The sermon series this year is "The Lies of Lent." Today's guest preacher is Pr. Cory Estby of Zion Lutheran, Grant Park. That "lie" of Satan of which he will warn us is "You Are a Brick" based on Mt. 26:40-41.
We begin the Lenten Season with Ash Wednesday services. In our midweek Lenten sermon series that begins today, we'll consider various statements of Satan who is "the father of lies" as Jesus describes him. Today's sermon is entitled: "You Know Best" based on Luke 22:1-6.
Jesus took His 3 favorite disciples onto the mountain to pray. There, they nearly slept through a miraculous event of important magnitude! We, too, are so easily distracted that we are prone to do the same thing. During the course of our sermon based on Luke 9:28-36, we'll consider our own propensity to "sleep" through the important events of life while chasing things of no eternal consequence. The sermon's title is "Wake Up!"
Jesus tells us to do WHAT?!? Yeah, in Luke 6, Jesus tells us to "love your enemies!" Come on! That's a big "ask" isn't it? We'll consider this in the sermon this weekend. The sermon is based on Luke 6:27-38 and is entitled: "Loved to Death!"
We have a "fish story" before us in this services Jesus preached from a boat & proclaimed the Word of God. He then proved the truthfulness of that Word by performing a profound miracle! We then ask: "What does this mean to me?" Sermon title is: "But at Your Word..." based on Luke 5:1-11.
"Why???" During this service, we consider this question that ALL of us have nearly every day of our lives. St. Paul will help us come to a right answer as we consider 1 Cor. 13:12 under the sermon titled: "Now I Know In Part..."
This weekend we join with other faithful Christians to observe Life Sunday. So many say that different "life circumstances" bring the need for abortion into our world. In our sermon under the title of "Is This a Case for Abortion?" we consider this most important matter. Scripture is: Is. 40:1-11, 1 Jn. 3:13-18, Jn. 10:7-18.
Jesus is at the Wedding in Cana. A HUGE problem develops... they run out of wine! Yikes! Mary, His mother, asks Jesus to "do something" to help the situation. His first reply is, frankly, shocking! The sermon title is: "Turned Down Cold... Or Not?" based on John 2:1-11.
